What we publish

Three lines,
one list.

A short list, made properly. If your book fits one of these lines, we want to see it. The authors page has the full brief for each and the terms.

Essays and reporting

Long non-fiction in geopolitics, culture, history or science, 30,000 to 90,000 words. Every claim with a source.

Children's picture books

Stories for ages 3 to 8, under 800 words. A story first, a lesson second. The studio illustrates in the house style.

Field guides

One subject explained once, clearly, in 12,000 to 25,000 words with room for diagrams.

What to send

Four things,
one page.

We would rather read a clear page than a long one, and we will ask for more if we want it.

    The book in a paragraph. What it is, who it is for, and why it should exist. If it does not fit in a paragraph, it is probably two books.
  2. 2
    Who it is for. The reader you picture. Not "everyone". A librarian in a small town, a parent reading aloud at bedtime, a student who wants one book on the subject.
  3. 3
    The table of contents. Chapter titles with one line each. For a picture book, skip this.
  4. 4
    A sample. One chapter for non-fiction, or the full text for a picture book. Paste it under the proposal, or link to a document we can open without an account.
