The imprint

A small list,
made properly.

Samia Books is the imprint of Samia Studios, a media and education house. We print books worth keeping: essays and reporting, picture books for children, and short field guides. Written by people, edited by people, sources at the back.

A drawn house with a red roof and a star over it, beside a tree, on green hills under a sun.

The name

Elevated,
sublime.

Samia (سامية) means elevated, sublime. The mark is an S with a star cut from its heart: the light at the centre of everything the house does, and the thing a good book leaves behind in a reader.

Books is one of the house's divisions. The Magazine, Learn and Kids make the essays, the lessons and the stories; Books is where the best of that work ends up on paper, between covers, with the sources at the back.

سامية

Samia, in Arabic: elevated, sublime.

The people

Small, and
says so.

A founder, and the people he works with. There is no masthead to invent: an editor owns each book, an illustrator draws each picture book, a designer in the studio sets each cover, and the author's name on the front means what it has always meant.

One editor per book

One editor says yes and owns the book from then on: the structural edit, the line edit, the copy edit, the fact-check, the proof.

Drawn, credited, paid

Pictures are drawn by an illustrator in the house style: paper, ink lines, flat colour. Nothing is published as the first output of any tool.

Part of a house

Samia Studios makes journalism, publishing, education, film and creative services. Books is its shelf. It is a Jahangiri Enterprises company.

The long view

Knowledge as an
invitation.

Samia Studios should make knowledge feel like an invitation, not a privilege. A book is still one of the best ways of doing that, and one of the few that lasts.

As the company grows it intends to reinvest surplus profits into libraries, schools, educational resources and recreational spaces: Samia Spaces. Today the founder gives through Humanity First; Spaces starts when there are surplus profits to give.
